Summer 2024

What a summer! It's always so hard to put into words all the summer season holds. It is so full - Full of people, conversations, laughter, prayer, meals, games, cleaning, late nights, early mornings. Our motto has been "tired but grateful". Just as it should be at the end of any race that is run to the fullest - we are tired but so incredibly grateful.

APRIL

Our first Adapted Camp went very well! It was wonderful to provide a place of connection for these families with children with a disability. It was touching for me (Rhea) to lead the discussion times with the typical sibling. Having a sibling with a disability has impacted my life in many ways. It was powerful to see the Lord use this experience to encourage these kids.

MAY

Ten2 is a GEM-lead program of 70+ college students (mom's biggest group to cook for of the summer!!) They come to camp for a week for training, then go to serve alongside missionaries all across Europe. The best part about Ten2 for us is getting to know the 4 members who stayed and invested at Camp des Cimes. Hannah, Anna, John, and Ethan were such wonderful, willing helpers throughout the summer.

JUNE

Our theme throughout the summer was "invited". We used the illustration of a set table to reflect this idea that we are invited by God to sit at the table that He has set before us. We saw this theme play out in powerful ways during each camp. Our campers were invited into a relationship with Jesus, invited to know more of themselves, invited into confidence, invited to forgive, and invited to trust in what God says of them.

We started the summer off with the Young Adult English Camp. We had a smaller group this year but it was a great camp! We had a mix of several young adults who believe in God, and some campers who are not believers at all. This led to several great discussions. For some of these young adults, this is the one place where they have Christian friends. JULY

I've been a counselor at Youth English Camp for 10 years. Any time it starts to feel redundant,

the Lord gives me a special camp that reminds me of the importance of His work - this camp was that special one. Time after time, conversation after conversation, we were reminded, "this is exactly why we're here". We are so grateful to be here, a part of this safe

place where God meets the broken in His love. I cannot remember a youth camp where I have had so many conversations about depression, anxiety, and self-harm. Please pray that these youths might continue to grow in their knowledge of truth.

Although there were some hard conversations, there were also wonderfully encouraging moments:

• One camper who doesn't come from a Christian family came to camp loaded with questions from her difficult past, and a hunger in her heart to know Jesus. As we talked about God, His plan for salvation, and His invitation into a relationship, her eyes would light up as she made important connections about who He is: "It’s amazing to think that there is this great big God and that He loves me".

• One camper who was in a very dark place last year came back this year having found new hope and zeal for life after having spent intentional time with God throughout the year.

• One of our counselors this year was an old camper who had come to youth camp a few years ago. Working with her and seeing how the Lord has shaped her life since the last time we saw her was amazing. We don't always get to see where our campers go, so it's always encouraging when we see them come back eager to serve the Lord in this place that helped point them to Christ. "If my faith is what it is today it’s thanks to camp"

Flo directed his 4th Kids Camp this summer! We are so grateful for a wonderful team of counselors who are committed to these kids and continue to return each summer. I'm reminded that even though these kids are young their hearts are significant to Jesus. The invitation to know Him is very real, and the questions they have are profound. On the last day, one girl in particular was brought to tears understanding for the first time the implication of the gospel in her life.

AUGUST

We finished the summer with 2 Family Camps. Though our program outline for these camps was the same, these 2 camps could not have been more different.

The first camp was primarily for families that had been coming for 10+ years. We know these families well and have seen the children of these families grow up before our eyes. These kids are now young adults, and it is incredible to see them walking with the Lord. Flo and I lead the morning discussion times for the youth and we invited many of the young adults to share their experiences with the youth group. It was amazing to see both the youth so encouraged by these testimonies and the young adults feeling empowered to share their stories. We love that at camp, these young people can recognize that God desires to use each of us for His purpose. "Thank you for asking me to serve. I feel so honored, and this came at the right time in my relationship with God. I really want to come back and help more."

The second family camp was mostly new families with very young children and several single moms. Many of these families have difficult family stories. We're glad that camp can be a safe place of rest, connection, and encouragement. "I don't really have people but I have places that anchor me in my faith like Camp des Cimes"

Time after time, conversation after conversation, we were reminded, "This is exactly why we're here". Our co-worker, Trenton, taught us about how God reveals Himself to all of us through goodness, beauty, and truth in this world. We have certainly seen His goodness, beauty, and truth this summer. Praise be to God.

Life Update:

WE'RE BUYING A HOME!! On September 5th (which will be our 4th wedding anniversary) we will be signing to purchase an apartment in Bourg d'Oisans - the town about 10 minutes away from camp. When we first started looking at places in town we fully expected to rent and buying a place seemed like a far-fetched dream, but the Lord opened up doors for us to be able to purchase. We are so excited and grateful!

Even though it is sad to say goodbye to our campers we are excited to get back to "normal life". I will be heading back to work at the junior high school this coming Friday. Please pray with us for a smooth beginning to a new school year with new kids that I'll be following. Also, pray for continued curiosity from my co-workers. At the end of the school year, they began asking questions about camp and faith which has been a big prayer request.

Flo begins soccer practice this week, and we'll resume the "off-season" camp projects, welcoming week-end group, getting back into the rhythm of going to church, spending time with friends, and creating a home in town.

As summer comes to a close we're filled with gratitude for what the Lord has done, and for all that is on the horizon. We are also thinking of you and your families. We thank God for your prayers and support that make our work here possible. We are praying for you as you transition into new rhythms or simply continue the day-in/day-out work. May you know the Lord's presence and power in your life. May He sustain us and give us peace as we keep our eyes on Him.

Été 2024

Quel été ! C'est toujours bien chargé avec tellement de personnes, de conversations, de rires, de prières, de repas, de jeux, de longues nuits, de matins trop tôt. Notre slogan durant ces derniers semaines a été: "fatigué mais reconnaissant". Comme à la fin de toute course terminée - nous sommes fatigués mais tellement reconnaissants.

AVRIL

Le premier Camp Adapté s'est très bien déroulé ! C'était super d'offrir ce temps de partage à ces familles avec des enfants en situation de handicap. C'était touchant pour moi (Rhéa) de diriger les moments de discussion avec le groupe des frères et sœurs typiques. Avoir une sœur handicapée a eu un grand impact dans ma vie et c'était puissant de voir le Seigneur utiliser cette expérience.

MAI

Ten2 est un programme dirigé par GEM avec plus de 70 étudiants (le plus grand groupe pour lequel ma mère a cuisiné cet été!!) Ils viennent au camp une semaine pour se former, puis partent pour servir aux côtés de missionnaires en Europe. La plus belle partie de Ten2 pour nous est d'apprendre à connaitre les 4 membres du programme qui sont resté ici au camp. Hannah, Anna, John et Ethan ont servi avec nous tout au long de l'été.

JUIN

Notre thème tout au long de l'été était "invité". Nous avons utilisé l'image d'une table pour refléter cette idée que Dieu nous invite à nous asseoir à la table qu'il a dressée devant nous. Nous avons vu ce thème se manifester de manière puissante lors de chaque camp. Nos campeurs ont été invités à entrer en relation avec Jésus, invités à mieux se connaître, invités à avoir confiance en eux, invités au pardon, invités à faire confiance à ce que Dieu dit.

Nous avons débuté l'été avec le Camp de Jeunes Adultes. C'etait un groupe plus petit cette année mais c'était un excellent camp ! Nous avions un mélange de plusieurs jeunes adultes croyants, et certains campeurs qui ne croient pas du tout. Cela a donné lieu à de nombreuses discussions intéressantes.

JUILLET

Ca fait maintenant 10 ans que je suis animatrice au Camp de jeunes. Chaque fois que ca commence à devenir répétitif, le Seigneur me donne un camp spécial qui me rappelle l'importance de Son œuvre - ce camp était celui-là. Il y a eu tellement de conversations importantes où on s'est dit: "ce moment, c'est exactement pourquoi on est ici". Nous sommes honorés d'être ici et de faire partie de cet endroit où Dieu révèle son amour. Je ne me souviens pas d'un camp où j'ai eu autant de conversations sur la dépression, l'anxiété et les pensées suicidaires. Priez pour ces jeunes, qu'ils connaissent la vérité.

Bien qu'il y ait eu des conversations difficiles, il y a aussi eu des moments très encourageants:

• Une campeuse qui n'est pas d'une famille chrétienne est venue au camp chargée de questions sur son passé difficile, et avec une soif de connaître Jésus. Elle était touché en comprenant le charactére de Dieu et Son invitation envers elle."C'est incroyable de penser qu'il y a ce grand Dieu qui m'aime, moi".

• Une campeuse qui était dans une période très sombre l'année dernière est revenue cette année avec un nouvel espoir et zèle pour la vie, après avoir passé du temps intentionnel avec Dieu cette année.

• L'une de nos animatrice cet été était une ancienne campeuse. C'était incroyable de travailler avec elle et de voir comment le Seigneur a façonné sa vie. C'est toujours encourageant de voir nos anciens campeurs revenir motivés à servir le Seigneur dans cet endroit qui les a aidés à se tourner vers Christ. "Si ma foi est ce qu'elle est aujourd'hui, c'est aussi grâce au camp des cimes".

Flo a dirigé son 4ème Kids Camp cette année ! Nous sommes très reconnaissants pour une belle équipe d'animateurs qui sont dévoués à ces enfants et qui reviennent chaque été. Même si ces enfants sont jeunes, leurs cœurs sont importants pour Jésus. L'invitation à Le connaître est réelle, et les questions qu'ils posent sont profondes. Le dernier jour, une fille en particulier a été touché comprenant pour la première fois l'implication de l'Évangile dans sa vie.

AOÛT

Nous avons terminé l'été avec 2 camps de famille. Le premier était principalement des familles qui viennent depuis plus de 10 ans. Nous connaissons bien ces familles et avons vu ces enfants grandir sous nos yeux. Ces jeunes enfants sont maintenant de jeunes adultes, et

c'est beau de les voir marcher avec le Seigneur. Flo et moi avons dirigé les temps de discussion du matin pour les adolescents et nous avons invité les jeunes adultes à partager leurs expériences avec les ados. C'était beau de voir les ados encouragés par ces témoignages, et les jeunes adultes prendre confiance et partager leurs histoires. "Merci de m'avoir demandé de servir. Je me sens tellement honoré et c'est arrivé au bon moment dans ma relation avec Dieu.''

Le deuxième camp était plutôt de nouvelles familles avec de très jeunes enfants et plusieurs mères célibataires. Beaucoup de ces familles ont des histoires difficiles. Nous sommes heureux que le camp puisse être un lieu de repos et d'encouragement. "Je n'ai pas vraiment de personnes qui m'ancre

dans ma foi, mais j'ai des lieux, comme le Camp des Cimes."

Notre collègue, Trenton, a parlé de la manière dont Dieu se révèle à nous à travers la bonté, la beauté et la vérité dans ce monde. Nous avons certainement vu Sa bonté, Sa beauté et Sa vérité cet été. Loué soit Dieu.

Autres nouvelles de chez nous :

NOUS ACHETONS UN APPARTEMENT !! Le 5 septembre (qui sera notre 4e anniversaire de mariage), nous signons pour acheter un appartement à Bourg d'Oisans - le village situé à environ 10 minutes du camp. Quand nous avons commencé à chercher pour un appartement en ville, acheter nous semblait être un rêve lointain, mais le Seigneur nous a ouvert des portes pour que nous puissions acheter. Nous sommes tellement heureux et reconnaissants !

Même s'il est triste de dire au revoir à nos campeurs, nous avons hâte de retrouver un rythme "normal". Je retourne travailler au collège vendredi. Priez avec nous pour un bon début année scolaire avec de nouveaux élèves que je vais suivre. Priez aussi pour de la curiosité de la part de mes collègues. À la fin de l'année scolaire en juin, ils ont commencé à poser des questions sur le camp et la foi, ce qui a été un grand sujet de prière.

Flo reprend aussi son rythme habituel: entraînements de foot, les projets "hors saison" au camp, accueillir des groupes en week-end. Nous avons hâte de reprendre le rythme d'aller à l'église, passer du temps avec des amis, et créer notre foyer en ville.

Alors que l'été touche à sa fin, nous sommes remplis de gratitude pour ce que le Seigneur a fait et pour tout ce qui est à l'horizon. Nous pensons également à vous et à vos familles. Nous remercions Dieu pour vos prières et votre soutien qui rendent possible ce que nous faisons ici. Que vous soyez dans une transition entre vacances et reprise ou simplement si vous continuez le travail quotidien, nous prions que vous puissiez connaître la présence et la puissance du Seigneur dans votre vie. Qu'Il nous soutienne et nous donne la paix alors que nous gardons nos yeux fixés sur Lui.
